Christina Hallström

I am an interdisciplinary artist working with photography, moving image and print. Mainly inspired by natural phenomena such as time, gravity, light, shadow, fire, wind and water in all its appearances.

In my recent process based work on paper, silk and canvas I work mainly with natural materials such as seaweed, water, sand, earth, graphite, indian ink and stone.

I’m excited and bewildered by screen-printing and camera less photography like cyanotype and photograms because it allows me to stay closer to the material, work outdoors, and let the physical elements play a role in the process; embracing serendipity, the random and unpredictable, during the work process that might lead to accidental sagacity.

You could say that underlying themes are chaos versus order.

Becoming the ocean in us (NAT Art Residence - 09/2022)

Every second breath we take the oxygen comes from the oceans.

Take a deep breath and listen to the water.

Feel the presence and wisdom of our ancestors.

To (re)connect, tune in to the wavelength of the oceans, just let it happen.

Feel the tide resonating through your body.

Dry your salty tears and dive into the knowledge deep down under.

Let your fluids resonate with the water like communicating vessels.

Let go of a fixed idea of body and identity, become fluid.

Now anything can happen.

How to save a tree (HTST) (Traces - 04/2021)
